16 Nepalese women rescued after DCW raid in Munirka
New Delhi: Around 7 pm on Tuesday, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) received a tip-off about confinement of the women at a house in South West Delhi's Munirka, Swati Maliwal with her team reached the spot and rescued 16 women, aged 20-40, hailing from Nepal. The DCW chief claimed that gang was using fake NoC of Nepal Embassy. Police claimed that they have registered a case in this regard and started the investigation to know in which circumstances these young women were brought to Delhi.
Maliwal stated that the women were brought to India by road and the gang involved in bringing them had a network in four countries India, Nepal, Kuwait and Iraq which should be investigated. "The women were brought here from Sindhupalchok district of Nepal which was severely affected during the earthquake, on the pretext of the job. The traffickers were planning to send them to Arab countries," said DCW chief. The room where the women were kept was very small and unhygienic. However, upon reaching Delhi, their passports were snatched away by the traffickers. They were confined in the room for the past 20 to 22 days. The women kept coming on different dates. They told that in last 15 days seven girls have been sent outside to Iraq and Kuwait.
"Place from where we rescued these women is only 500 meters away from police station. I can't understand that how police know nothing about trafficking activities, while being so close to this place but DCW gets information. Trafficking in Delhi will continue to increase till accountability of police is not fixed," Maliwal said.
DCP (South West) Devender Arya said that the police have registered a case under IPC sections of human trafficking and cheating. "We have questioned the landlord who claimed that he had given the house three months ago to a person and he did not notice anything suspicious in his house whereas the women claimed that they were brought to Delhi 20 days ago but were not given any job," said DCP Arya. DCW claimed that a few days ago also girls were brought to the South Delhi. Police sources claimed that a few days ago a girl was sent back from the airport after her NOC was not appropriate. Maliwal further stated that recently few women were sent to Arab countries. One of the girls sent outside was pregnant. The complaint copy of the case accessed by the newspaper stated that they were told by the suspected traffickers to tell lie to the authority on the Indo-Nepal border and were promised of Rs 20,000 for working in another country.
Commenting on the development, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted "Where are BJP, LG, Home Minister, Prime Minister? Delhi police is under them. What are they doing? It was their duty to stop this."
Delhi Police claimed that till March 2018, 20 cases of human trafficking have been reported in which 20 persons have been arrested while over 142 males and 41 females rescued.
