15 new police stations may come up soon in Delhi to prevent crime
New Delhi: Soon, Delhi may see 15 new police stations in different districts of the city which will help cops prevent crime in their area. Police sources claimed that senior officers are also chalking out possibilities of a new police district in national Capital.
Delhi Police sources told Millennium Post that police headquarters (PHQ) had asked the districts DCPs regarding the proposal of new police stations in their area. A list regarding the new police stations has been prepared by senior officers which will be submitted to PHQ. "It will help in curbing crime in the area and possibility is that there can be 15 new police stations," sources added.
Police sources further claimed that the new police stations can be built by carving out areas of nearby police stations. "Like there can be the creation of Shaheen Bagh police station by carving out areas of Jamia Nagar and nearby police stations," sources claimed.
The report from the district may be submitted within this week. The initiative can help police in curbing crime including snatching, robbery, burglary. The cops can also maintain tight vigil in the area as well as the bordering areas. New police stations will also prove to be the deterrent for the liquor trafficking. Sources further claimed that the senior police officers in PHQ are chalking the possibility of a new district in Delhi by taking out some areas of Rohini and North West Delhi.
The city police data claimed that since 2016, the city has seen more than 9,500 cases of robbery in which as many as 12,000 persons were arrested and around 6,800 cases were cracked whereas the Capital witnessed more than 22,000 snatching cases in which the police cracked over 10,000 cases from 2016. The investigating agency nabbed 13,000 persons.
Police sources told Millennium Post that in 2015, around 2.79 lakh bottles of country-made liquor were seized; in 2016, the number was more than three lakh. Last year, so far, the number has exceeded four lakh. Recently the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik asked senior officers regarding action to curb street crime involving the use of firearms.
