14 sophisticated pistols seized from supplier of illegal arms

NEW DELHI: An inter-state arms supplier has been arrested by Delhi Police and 14 sophisticated pistols have been recovered from his possession.
"26-year-old illegal arms supplier Iqbal, a resident of Chatta of Kosi Kalan, Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by Special Staff of South Delhi Police.
"During his search, 14 sophisticated .32 bore, concealed in a bag, were recovered from his possession. The average price of each weapon ranges between Rs 30,000-50,000," Romil Baaniya, DCP (South) told reporters on Wednesday.
During interrogation, Iqbal revealed to cops that he had come in contact with Mufeed, a man from his native village, who roped him in the business of supplying illegal arms in Delhi-NCR region to earn easy money.
He soon partnered Mufeed and started working as a carrier for illegal arms to local criminals.
Iqbal also disclosed that he used to procure illegal arms and pistols from Sendhwa, Madhya Pradesh, and supply them to different people on the directions of Mufeed. He had supplied illegal arms in Delhi-NCR over the past year and Mufeed would pay him Rs 1,000 for each illegal gun.
For some time, cops have been concentrating on illegal supply of arms in Delhi and the National Capital Region.
The matter was discussed during a recent Inter-state Coordination Meeting of the Delhi Police and special inputs were shared regarding such activities in areas of Madhya Pradesh such as Khargone and Sendhwa, and Munger in Bihar.
Special teams were constituted in South District to initiate action against such gangs.
