13 arrested for betting on CSK vs SRH match

New Delhi: The IPL season every year brings a series of crackdowns on betting syndicates that operate from dingy rooms to five-star hotels. The dark shade of betting keeps the police on its toes months ahead of the start of the IPL season. In one of the new crackdowns, Shahdara police have arrested 13 people in connection with the Indian Premier League gambling from Farsh Bazaar. The cops have seized 28 mobile phones, one output box, two set-top boxes and one small TV along with approximately Rs 45,000.
The police team soon sniffed information that during a match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, a group of men were playing satta. Immediately, a team of police officers geared up for the raid at Bhikam Singh Colony, Shahdara, Delhi. When the police team barged into the room, 10 persons were found gambling and betting on the cricket match.
On sustained interrogation, the police got to know that the betting syndicate was well connected and well orchestrated. Accused Md Afsar disclosed that he used to take information about the rate of Satta from a man named Gulshan, who operated from Subhash Park, Shahdara, Delhi. Acting upon the disclosure, the team raided at the disclosed address and arrested three persons Gulshan Walia , Nipun Verma and Anil Oberoi.
"They were found operating and giving information to Satta players with the help of a small TV with set top box, 28 mobile phones, output box with 19 lines, 20 mobile chargers and two electric-boards. The articles used in the Satta were also seized. Further investigation is being carried out to find out the involvement of the others in this crime." DCP Shahdara, Nupur Prasad, said. Those who were arrested are in the age group of 35 to 46. However, a 19-year-old boy from Radhey Puri extension was also arrested.
