Gurugram: In a major operation conducted by Gurugram police, its cyber team was successful in busting 10 fake call centres that were operational in the city. There have been thirty three people that have been arrested by the law enforcement officials. The police have seized laptops, computers, headphones, mobile phones, computer servers in large amounts.
The modus operandi of the people involved in the crime were to collect the date of the citizens of Gurugram, get in touch them and through the interaction collect their vital financial detail that were exploited later.
This is not for the first time when fake call centres have been busted by the Gurugram police. In the past there have been various arrests been made from Delhi who used to fleece the citizens. However, this is for the one of the firsts, where such large number of call centres has been busted and the arrests have been made.
If 2015 and 2016 were the years when the law enforcement officials realised the challenges of cyber crime, in 2017 the crimes commited through online medium took even greater proportions.
The series of crimes started with various multinational companies losing vital data and amounts through Ransomware virus ended with the digital medium being used for kidney trade.
With 200 crimes registered on monthly basis there were over 3252 cases registered in 2017. These were way above the previous figures of 2402 cases that was filed in 2016.
