1 in every 25 Corona patients in Delhi is a healthcare worker

New Delhi: The number of Covid-19 positive cases among healthcare workers is worrying in the national Capital. According to data by the state government, one in every 25 people with the Coronavirus disease in Delhi is a healthcare worker.

This comes after more than 50 health workers all over Delhi have been found positive of the virus. The data highlights risks faced by front-line responders and concerns over adequate personal protection equipment (PPE) kits.

Meanwhile, hundreds of health workers are in quarantine at the moment. According to a source at a state hospital, most of the doctors were exposed to a positive patient one way or the other. Numerous health workers the correspondent has interacted with have raised the issue of safety gear and quarantine.

Nurses from LNJP, Max and other hospitals have complained of quarantine facilities. Nurses from LNJP said that a ward inside the hospital has been reserved for them, which makes them vulnerable to the virus. "When we go back home from hospital it creates a lot of issues. As of now a ward has been opened for us but the condition is deplorable and we request the government to look into it," said a nurse at LNJP.

Meanwhile, a resident doctor at Safdarjung Hospital has also raised the issue, stating that they need more safety gear. "The government needs to realize we are at a very vulnerable stage and the healthcare workers are at the forefront. The whole system is us at the moment and we need to keep ourselves safe and for that we need safety gears," said the doctor.

Delhi reported a total of 2156 cases till Wednesday. In addition, more than 400 health care workers across the city have been quarantined after coming in contact with people who later tested positive.

On the other hand, the recovery rate of patients in Delhi is 28 percent, which according to the state government is recovering per day. As of now 611 patients have been recovered.
