The Delhi University Vice-Chancellor’s office has been rendered “dysfunctional” as sources say working under the pressure of splintered groups of teachers and the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry, a policy deadlock situation is prevalent in V-C Yogesh Tyagi’s office.
“Since Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi assumed his office, not a single decision has been taken. The University is almost running in an ad-hock manor and the policy deadlock situation is prevalent in almost all the departments of the University,” said sources.
Tyagi had asserted that his team of University officials consisting of Pro V-C, deans of colleges, director South campus and proctor would be in place by the end of the last month but no initiative has been taken forward in this regard.
Despite seeking repeated appointments, media personnel are being kept out of the Vice-Regal Lodge Estate that currently houses the office of the DU Vice-Chancellor.
“The formation of the University official team has been already much delayed. In the absence of these officials, files are piling up. The V-C has not even called for a EC meeting which is pending since October last year,” a teacher of DU said requesting anonymity.
In the leadership of A K Bhagi, a group of teachers linked with the National Democratic Teachers Front (NDTF) recently has also given its representation to the V-C. The NDTF has demanded for the initiation of appointments of teaching staff as soon as possible.
Currently, the DU has almost 4,000 teaching staff posts vacant and out of 77 colleges, 22 colleges are being administered by temporary principals.
