Delhi trader under DRI lens for Rs 15 cr tax evasion

A Delhi-based firm has come under the scanner of the Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for allegedly evading import duty to the tune of Rs 15 crore while importing restricted items concealed in furniture from China. Empire Safe Company, a unit of R R Builders and Furnishers (P) Ltd, was allegedly involved in importing restricted items like ozone-depleting gases concealing them in furnitures being imported from China, official sources said here on Monday.
The company did not reply to an email query. Phone calls made to its head office in Kirti Nagar here also did not elicit any response. The firm was allegedly importing R 22 gases, commonly used in air conditioning systems.
