Delhi to set up power towers in Noida

The Uttar Pradesh government allowed has Delhi to install six power transmission towers in Noida to provide the capital’s densely populated eastern part an alternate source of electricity if a power grid failure occurs again, a Delhi minister said.

‘Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit spoke to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on the installation of these towers in Noida and he agreed to it. This was a long-drawn issues which has been settled now,’ said Power Minister Haroon Yusuf. Noida town in Uttar Pradesh abuts Delhi.

These transmission towers, which Delhi government claims will be up and running by February 2013, will be maintained by Delhi Transco.

‘Till know we did not have electricity back up for east Delhi but now we will have six towers in Noida which would be an alternate source of energy if something wrong happens. We are grateful to UP that they allowed the installation,’ said Yusuf.
