Delhi to have more tubewells

Various government and non-government agencies in Delhi have shown their concern over depleting underground water level in the national capital and have started a campaign regarding the issue. But ignoring the depletion of underground water in Delhi, the standing committee of North Corporation on Wednesday passed a proposal to install hundreds of tube wells in its parks of less than one acre area.

The resolution was proposed by the Garden Committee of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) to make the smaller parks ‘lush green’.

‘To make the parks lush green, a source of water like tube-wells is absolutely necessary,’ said Purnima Vidhayarthhi, Chairperson of the Garden Committee of NDMC. The Garden Committee has already passed the resolution on 11 July, which was passed by the Standing Committee on Wednesday to be put in the house.

Leader of House in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) had recently announced to bring a resolution to use treated sewage water for watering of parks and green belt in South Delhi area. ‘It would be helpful in water conservation and recharging the undergound water,’ said Arya announcing his project.
