Delhi to establish free residential school to honour Ambedkar

Delhi Chief Minister  Sheila Dikshit on Sunday claimed that in order to provide the best education facilities to the SC, ST, OBC and minorities and orphan children, the city government is setting up a residential school. The school would provide free education, boarding and lodging facilities, she said.

This is going to be the best tribute to the Architect of our constitution, Dr Bhimrao  Ambedkar, as he dreamt of imparting education every dalit child, she  added. According to her, the government has set up a university named after Ambedkar.

While referring to the contribution of Dr Ambedkar,  Dikshit said, 'He gave us the best constitution in the world which  helped us in protecting and nurturing our valued democratic system.'

She called upon the members of the weaker sections to come forward to make use of all available opportunities like other communities.

'Our government had set up a memorial of Dr Ambedkar at Civil Lines. It is time to publicise it so that the weaker sections could visit and draw inspirations from the memorial,' Dikshit said.

She gave away the Pratibha Awards to the two Dalit children for scoring the highest marks in the Senior Secondary Examination. The award has been instituted by the Delhi Safai Karmchari Aayog. The award carries Rs 10,000, a memonto and certificate and shawls to the parents of the students.

Anjali and Aashish were presented awards in a function called Prer na Divas organised by the commission to mark the 122th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar.

Delhi transport minister, Ramakant Goswami, Sant shri Krishan Vidyarathi and  Delhi Safai Karamchari Commission(DSKC) chairman Harnam Singh addressed the gathering. Delhi Jal Board member Sandeep Tanwar and Councillor  Anju Sehwag were present.
