Delhi sizzles at 450C

Delhiites were on Tuesday in for another hot day with no end in sight to the searing conditions.
<g data-gr-id="32">Maximum</g> temperature in the city settled at 45 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, a notch below Monday’s which was highest of the season so far.

<g data-gr-id="28">Minimum</g> was recorded a notch above normal at 28 degrees Celsius.

The sweltering heat also brought down <g data-gr-id="29">humidity</g> in <g data-gr-id="30">air</g> that wavered between 18 and 39 <g data-gr-id="31">per cent</g>.
The Meteorological department has predicted no relief from severe heat wave for the next 24 hours.
“Skies will be mainly clear. Maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 44 and 27 degrees respectively,” a MeT forecast said.

While heat waves are fairly common in May, a number of factors have come together to make the current spell rather extreme.

One is the heat transfer from south Pakistan through westerly winds.

“In Sindh, temperatures have shot up to 49, even 50 degrees. Westerly winds are bringing with them this extreme, dry heat through a process called advection (transport),” said B P Yadav, director, IMD.
