Delhi sees 27 new swine flu cases

The number of patients admitted with swine flu is on the rise. On Monday, 27 new patients were admitted in Safdarjung Hospital, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Lok Nayak Hospital.
S K Sharma, chief medical officer of the swine flu detection centre at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and a junior doctor have also been hit by swine flu. Both are put under home quarantine for suspected influenza A (H1N1).
Dr M Wali, senior physician at the RML Hospital in Delhi advised the people to protect themselves and their families from H1N1. With rise in the cases, all government hospitals are on alert and are following the H1N1 protocol, including having an isolated ward with dedicated staff at select centres.
In 2012, a total of 78 swine flu cases were recorded in the entire year with only one death.
A K Walia, Delhi health minister said, ‘Delhi is completely prepared to fight the disease. Medicines have been arranged and are in adequate supply. We have also had a meeting with hospitals with regard to testing facilities and that has been arranged.’
Swine flu cases have been recorded in other states of India as well. 54 deaths have been recorded in Rajasthan and the state is on high alert. 13 deaths have been recorded in Haryana while nine deaths have been reported in Punjab in the same time period.
Swine flu symptoms include high fever, sore throat, breathlessness, body ache and fatigue.
