Delhi Police warn of traffic snarls today

There may be traffic snarls at various places in the national Capital on 4 November due to Muharram processions, said Delhi Traffic Police on Monday.

Through an advisory issued by Delhi Traffic Police on Monday evening, commuters were also asked to avail the services of Delhi Metro to save themselves from severe congestions, especially during peak hours.

According to the advisory, Muharram processions will start from 9 am from mosques at Kashmere Gate, Chabi Ganj (central), Bara Bazar (central), Chhota Bazar (north-east), Nizamuddin, Mehrauli and Okhla. All these processions would terminate at around 4 pm at Panja Sharif in Kashmere Gate.
These processions shall pass through the entire Old Delhi region and make their way through major zones and stretches that include the Paharganj bridge, Ajmeri Gate (including the road near the New Delhi Railway Station), Chelmsford Road, Connaught Place, Parliament Street, Red Cross Road, Tughlak Road, Aurobindo Marg and Jor Bagh.

‘Commuters are advised to avoid all these aforementioned roads on Tuesday,’ said Anil Shukla, Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic).

Processions will also be taken out from northern peripheries like Jahangirpuri, east Delhi areas and the Trans-Yamuna region but they will end at local karbalas of the respective districts,
‘In addition, due to other local processions, movement of traffic is also likely to be affected on Mathura Road, Maa Anandmai Marg, Mehrauli-Badarpur Road, Pankha Road and Palam Dabri Road,’ said the traffic official.

He further added that otherwise affected roads like Tilak Marg, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg, Rajghat and Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, however, are expected to witness only minor snarls on Tuesday depending upon the timing and movement of the processions.

‘Those going to New Delhi railway station on Tuesday, particularly in the evening, should leave in advance and have sufficient time for possible delay in routes,’ said the senior official.

He further said, commuters should avoid Connaught Place to reach New Delhi railway station.
‘For uninterrupted journey, commuters may use metro services,’ the official added.
