Delhi Police are leaving no stone unturned to strengthen the charges they have framed on Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar who was slapped with sedition charges and arrested on February 13 for a speech he gave after a group of students held an event on the campus marking the third anniversary of terror convict Afzal Guru’s hanging. Kanhaiya is supposed to be in police custody till Tuesday and will be produced in the court on Wednesday.
According to the sources, Delhi Police have opted for voice sampling test on Kanhaiya to prove that he had delivered a speech inciting people to rebel against the authority of a state or monarch for which he has been slapped for sedition charges. Delhi Police have already collected all the necessary evidences including videos and statements against Kanhaiya. Now, with voice sampling, the officials will match the sample and the voice in the video. The Cyber Cell of Delhi Police is also involved in the probe, sources claimed. However, the senior police officials remained tight lipped on the interrogation part of Kanhaiya.
A highly placed source in the investigation team told Millennium Post: “All the videos are being scrutinised thoroughly. Also, a special team has been formed that is watching the video without the audio and are trying to decode the speech and slogans raised by the protestors. Further the decoded words are being matched with the audio.”
The source further added that the list of JNU students including the pass outs is being looked at and on that basis the police are trying to establish the identities of people spotted in dozens of videos.
Kanhaiya will be produced at the Patiala House Court on Wednesday and police are likely to demand for four days’ custody. “Huge number of police deployment has been arranged outside the court for Wednesday as there is a high possibility of a scuffle and violence between political party supporters, lawyers, journalists, JNU students and Kanhaiya’s sympathisers,” a police official said.
