Delhi Police start drive to curb drunk driving

To curb drunk driving, the Delhi Traffic Police has launched the ‘Chakravyuh Scheme’ in the national Capital.

To stop people driving under the influence of alcohol exceeding the prescribed limit, the police said that all the exit points of the targeted area are manned under the Chakravyuh Scheme.
In Hauz Khas village under the Chakravyuh scheme, “in last two days, more than 100 people have been booked and their driving licenses impounded.

Most of the violators who have been penalised belong to the younger generation. In case the people were not having the driving license, the vehicles have been impounded,” the police said.

It said that the step was taken after finding reports of people drinking and driving in inebriated conditions.

“Hauz Khas Village being the hub of bar and restaurants, there have been reports of people drinking and driving in inebriated condition,” police said.

Police also said the Chakravyuh Scheme of traffic police has been a very successful model of prosecution in which all the exit points of the targeted area are manned and no one can exit without being noticed/checked.

Through a statement the Delhi Traffic Police said that it will further launch such massive drives to contain the drivers driving under the influence of alcohol during the upcoming festivals and New Year celebrations.

Delhi Traffic Police further appealed to citizens to celebrate, but make alternative arrangements to reach back home by hiring drivers or taxis so that they are not on the wheels under the influence of alcohol which in turn puts the life in danger.
