Delhi police special cell arrests one more in IPL spot fixing case

Amit Kishore Jishani, who was suspected of being involved in spot fixing, was picked up on 28 November by the special cell officers from his house in Nagpur. Amit, who was arrested under sections 419, 420 and 34 of IPC, was produced in a city court and remanded to custody for further probe.

Investigation revealed that Amit provided a SIM card to one of the fixers. The special cell officers who are probing the case stumbled upon a suspicious phone number — 8928335718 — and started intercepting it. During investigation it emerged that the number was used to call one of the bookies involved in the IPL-6 match fixing scandal. Calls from a bookie were also received on this number. The police immediately swung into action and found that the SIM card was purchased from Nagpur in the name of Amit Kishore Jishani.

Immediately a police team raided his place in Nagpur and managed to arrest him. During interrogation he pleaded that he was not involved in the racket and claimed that he runs a mobile phone shop. He told the interrogators that in March 2012 a person called Sunil Bhatia came to his shop and filled a customer application form in the name of Deepak Gupta. ‘Sunil said he is not carrying Deepak’s identity card and promised to submit it later. I trusted him and gave him the number and charged Rs 100 instead of Rs 20 out of greed,’ Amit reportedly told the interrogators.

The sleuths probing the case are now trying to get more details about Amit and his antecedent. ‘It is too early to comment on the matter. The matter is under investigation and we are looking for Sunil and Deepak, who are absconding,’ a special cell source said.
