An eight-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from Delhi, has been rescued in Jharkhand and the accused was arrested after 72 hours of a cat and mouse chase spread across many states, police said on Tuesday.
Nitin alias Neeraj was rescued by a Delhi Police team in Jharkhand. He was kidnapped on February 28 from Sangam Vihar in South-east Delhi. He was rescued on Monday and Manohar Ram (26) a resident of Girdih, Jharkhand was arrested for the crime.
“Nitin’s father Ashok Ram had reported to the police that on February 28 at about 3 pm, his son had been kidnapped by someone while he was playing outside the house. At about 6:30 pm on the same day, he received a ransom call on his mobile phone in which the caller demanded Rs 10 lakh for the release of his child,” said DCP (southeast) Mandeep Randhawa.
During investigation, the needle of suspicion pointed towards Manohar Ram, a distant relative of complainant, who had an easy access to the house of the complainant. His antecedents were verified and it was revealed that Manohar Ram had recently lost his job and he was in dire need of money.
Meanwhile, it was also learnt by the police team that frequent calls of ransom are being received from the kidnapper.
Technical surveillance was immediately mounted which revealed that the ransom calls were being made from Koderma, Jharkhand. On the basis of initial inputs, the possible route taken by the accused was found to be via Agra (UP), Ranchi and Koderma (Jharkhand).
Further, two separate police teams were dispatched to Agra and Ranchi while the third team was sent to Koderma by Air since the location of kidnapper was continuously changing in and around Koderma Railway Station, Jhumri Tillaiya (Jharkhand), police said.
