Delhi police imports stun guns to stop errant bikers

After J&K and Punjab police, now Delhi police has joined the queue to buy Taser guns popularly known as stun guns or shock guns. The idea is to use these guns while controlling law and order situations without causing grievous injury or accidental deaths like the one that took place while trying to control stunt bikers a few months back.
Delhi police has ordered half dozen stun guns from the USA especially to control bikers in New Delhi district. ‘These stun guns are manufactured in various countries, but we preferred to buy them from America as the weapons manufactured by them are safe and trustworthy, said a senior official. A stun gun costs over Rs 70,000 depending on the features. ‘It causes temporary injuries as these guns deliver electric shocks. It makes the targeted person unconscious for few minutes and helps cops to nab him. The usage of stun guns on criminals is legal, though it is banned in various countries,’ he added.Â
‘We have ordered special stun guns that have laser beams. It will help cops to fix the target and then use the gun. It has internal chargeable battery also,’ the officer said.Â
