Delhi Police head constable seriously injured

The SUV, a white Renault Duster, was being driven by a youth in his twenties in an inebriated state. The official, identified as Raghu Nandan, was posted at the Pandav Nagar police station in east Delhi.

He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Patparganj by the other two constables who were with him at the picket. His condition was reported to be critical till Saturday evening.

According to the police, the incident was reported at around 12.50 am when the SUV was asked to stop for a regular vehicle check.

The driver, instead of stopping,  sped ahead and rammed into the barricades, injuring head constable Nandan seriously.

The driver, identified as Siddhant Kashyap (22), was arrested immediately. He was booked for rash and negligent driving. Kashyap is a resident of east Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar. The other occupant of the car, an 18-year-old youth named Manish Bajaj, was also drunk.

On Thursday night, a sub-inspector of Delhi Police, posted at Bhalswa Dairy police station in north-west Delhi, died after being hit by an overloaded truck at Alipur area in the outer fringes of the city.
