Delhi Police head constable, home guard thrashed in Seelampur

A Delhi Police head constable and a home guard were thrashed at a picket in north-east Delhi’s Seelampur area in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The assailants remained still at large till late Monday evening.

The head constable has been identified as Dharamveer, in his early forties and is posted at the Seelampur police station. At the time of the incident, Dharamveer stopped a Swift Dzire car at a picket at around 12.20 am after which an argument took place between him and the four occupants of the car over sudden checking of the vehicle. Initially, they left after the checking but at around 1.30 am, they returned to the picket and attacked him and a home guard with sticks.

A police officer said that the four men were allegedly carrying a gun and had dropped its magazine at the scene of crime. A case in connection with the incident under the Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) at the Seelampur police station.
