Delhi police gear up to handle Diwali troubles

<span style="border-bottom: 1px solid #0000FF !important;text-decoration:underline !important;color:#0000FF !important">Delhi police have tightened their belt to facilitate the citizens of the national capital on Diwali. To avoid congestion of <span style="border-bottom: 1px solid #0000FF !important;text-decoration:underline !important;color:#0000FF !important">the Delhi police helpline numbers, the inquiry lines will be diverted to the direct lines.
Presently, there are 100 lines dedicated to the PCR helpline number 100. Another 10 lines are dedicated to other helpline numbers, including women helpline number and traffic.
Keeping in mind, the expected increase in the number of calls during the festive days, all the lines have been diverted to the common helpline number 100 so that the callers won’t face any problem in explaining their issues.
‘To make these diversions of complaint calls possible we have increased the staff strength and have kept a back up of the police officers working at the help desk of the Police Control Room. In general, there are 85 Delhi police officials, including female officers, but till 4 November the number has been increased to 105,’ TN Mohan special commissioner of police (operations) said.
Delhi police receives more PCR calls during Diwali generally. ‘Sometimes, the total number of calls received in a day reaches double the number. This time it might go up to 50,000 calls in a day,’ Mohan added.
Specifying the reason behind this tremendous increase in the call rate, he said, ‘Generally on <span style="border-bottom: 1px solid #0000FF !important;text-decoration:underline !important;color:#0000FF !important">Diwali we get calls regarding parking issues, quarrel between groups, accidents, fire and a lot more.’
