Delhi Police could face criminal complaint

The police might face a criminal complaint for obstructing a government servant doing his duty as the district magistrate is likely to file a complaint.

AAP already has raised the question over Delhi Police’s inefficiency and insensitivity to deal with the incident. Both the police and AAP have accused each other of doing nothing to save Gajendra Singh.

The case is being investigated by Delhi Police Crime Branch, at the same time Aam Aadmi Party government had also ordered an inquiry in the alleged suicide of the farmer that took place during AAP rally in Jantar Mantar area on Wednesday.

On Friday, Delhi Police questioned the need for a magisterial inquiry ordered by the Delhi government. The district magistrate Sanjay Kumar had asked Delhi Police to submit the relevant papers by 11 am but Delhi Police have failed to do so.

The police might face a criminal complaint against them as the district magistrate is likely to file one against the police for obstructing a government servant doing his duty.

Senior police officials of the Crime Branch remained tight-lipped over the tiff between Delhi Police and district magistrate. Whereas, Delhi Police PRO avoided to take direct questions in which he was asked as to why Delhi Police are not corporating with the parallel probe.

Rajan Bhagat, Delhi Police PRO said: “We do inquest proceedings in all cases of unnatural deaths in the city and even cremate the unattended, unidentified bodies at our own expense. Annually 7,000 unnatural deaths occurred in the Capital, implying that magisterial inquiries were never ordered into these by the Delhi government.”

When asked about the tussle between Delhi Police and the Delhi government, Bhagat added: “It is a sensitive matter and is between Delhi Police and other disciplined organisations and cannot be revealed to the media”.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi confirmed that Ganjendra’s death was due to hanging. “As per preliminary findings of the post mortem report, the death happened due to hanging,” he said. However, refusing the allegations of a tussle between Delhi Police and Delhi government, Bassi said Delhi Police are a part of the government and there was no infighting within.

“We take all actions as per the rule of law. All appropriate actions will be taken,” Bassi assured.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police are also matching the hand writing of Ganjendra with that on the note he left behind.
