Following the new power tariff announced by Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), Delhi Metro has proposed a hike in its fare. According to the proposal sent by the Centre, Delhi Metro has demanded that the minimum fare should be Rs 10 instead of existing Rs 8; and the maximum fare should be raised to Rs 40 from existing Rs 30.
Last week, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) managing director Mangu Singh wrote a letter to Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, Sudhir Krishna to review metro fares in light of the 10 percent hike in power tariff announced by DERC. DMRC MD has pointed out that the per unit price of power has shot up 3.80 to Rs 5, which in effect amounts to nearly 40 per cent hike.
