Delhi Metro submits project for phase-4, work to begin soon

Delhi Metro submitted a detailed project report (DPR) for phase 4 to the Delhi government and the Union urban development ministry. The metro phase 4 project will cover Rithala-Narela extension, Mukand Pur-Maujpur, Tughlakabad-Aerocity, Indraprastha-Inderlok and Lajpat Nagar-Saket. The project is likely to get the final nod before the upcoming Delhi assembly election.
DMRC has finalised eight routes for the next phase which is scheduled to be completed by 2021. The 104-km phase 4 project is waiting for the final nod from the concerned department. If permission is granted for the proposed phase, it will cover around half of Delhi’s areas. Meanwhile, the 140-km Phase 3 project is yet to be completed that has a March 2016 deadline.
The DMRC Phase-4 Metro lines (with a 2021 deadline) will cover the following areas including Yamuna Bank-Loni border 12 km, Rithala-Bawana 12.5 km. Janakpuri West-Mukundpur 18.74 km, Kirti Nagar-Dwarka sector-28 18.1 km, Badarpur-Delhi Aerocity 20.79 km, Lajpat Nagar-Madangir 7.3 km, Azadpur-RK Ashram 9 km, Mukundpur-Dilshad Garden via Yamuna Vihar 17.54 km. There might be some changes in plan before the actual construction begins on these lines.
DMRC proposed to construct 15 metro stations in Rithala-Narela line, while the Janakpuri west RK-Ashram line will have 26 metro stations, Mukundpur-Maujpur will have eight metro stations, Tughlakabad-Aerocity will get 15 metros stations, Lajpat Nagar -Saket will get seven metro stations while Indraprastha-Inderlok will have 10 metro stations. The Delhi Metro will use acned technology in the upcoming phase 4 project. ‘The metro network in Delhi-NCR would cross the 400-km mark after the end of Phase 4, which is scheduled to be completed by the year 2021,’ said a DMRC spokesperson.
