The Delhi Metro on Saturday inducted into passenger service the first ever train with advertisements wrapped on its exterior.
The first train was inducted on Dwarka-Vaishali route of Blue Line--Line 3/4 (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre/Vaishali) towards Vaishali, a DMRC spokesperson said.
Approximately 15 such trains will be inducted into service initially with 7 trains on Line 2 that is Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre and 8 trains on Line 3/4 which are the busiest lines of Delhi Metro
network.
The first train on Line 2 will also be inducted by next week.
Currently, only six coach trains are being wrapped.
Gradually trains on other corridors will also be covered.
To augment the non-operational revenues of DMRC through advertisements, the Delhi Metro has awarded exclusive advertising rights for displaying advertising materials including pictures, printed material, electric/electronic media, smart posters, holographic images, visual displays etc on the external part of its trains.
Currently, DMRC operates a fleet of over 200 train sets with over 60 eight-coach trains and over 80 six-coach trains.
The ‘train wraps’ have been permitted on 10 per cent of the total train sets available on the operational lines of Delhi Metro network.
The exclusive advertising rights have been given to two agencies, which will be valid for 10 years.
The selected agencies will give annual license fee in lieu of the exclusive advertising rights.
DMRC will also monitor this activity, so that it also contributes to the aesthetic value of the Delhi Metro through high quality advertising comparable to world class airports and metro railways besides other leading destinations.
So far, DMRC has been advertising inside the Metro trains apart from station premises, the spokesperson added.
