Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, inaugurated the newly refurbished Bharati Delhi Emporium on Tuesday in the presence of the city’s industry minister Haroon Yusuf.
Accompanied by the minister and the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (DSIIDC) top brass, chief managing director Amit Yadav, executive directors Sanjeev Ahuja, Yashpal Garg and general manager Anand Tiwari, the chief minister went around the emporium. She evinced keen interest in various products displayed for sale. According to Dikshit, ‘It is a shoppers’ heaven.’
The emporium, located at Baba Kharak Marg, is being run by the DSIIDC.
‘It’s spread over three floors and showcases brass artifacts, leather items, wooden toys, artificial jewellery, tea, corporate gifts, bed cover and handloom products, artefacts of awardees, zari bags and footwear, handmade paper products and white metal products,’ DSIIDC spokesperson said.
Other key attractions are jewellery, marble artefacts, sarees, dress material, shawls, wooden handicrafts, ladies and gents garments, paintings and carpets.
DSIIDC spokesman said it was renovated with a view to create a brand identity, develop a new cosmopolitan interior and reduce the clutter and for optimal utilisation of space.
The two basic colours that have been used in the emporium are black, implying a sense of luxury and white for purity and space. For instance, white marble flooring gives an illuminated effect, giving a spaced out feel.
These are also the two basic colours that were meant to co-exist with multi-hued palette of its various ethnic products.
The design is modern and clutter free. Every section has a customised display window. While keeping the look and feel standardised, the various product dynamics define the display area. Since product lighting is of paramount importance, the shelves have been specifically designed as self illuminated that will throw adequate light on the products.
Long full wall length shelves have been created for effective display. Unnecessary curves have been removed. Full length long drawers alongside the entire area have been made to give adequate storage space.
