Delhi government on Friday announced to amend VAT rules to give relief to traders by liberalising taxation norms. The decision was taken in the meeting of the Cabinet chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
“We had a meeting with traders in which they demanded to allow the provision of ‘carry forward’ in input tax system to claim the tax refund. We have decided to amend the rules as per their need,” said Sisodia announcing the decision of the Cabinet. He further added that the existing rules gives the officers more powers which forces the traders to pay them bribe. “Traders were forced to claim refund, if any before the end of each financial year on March 31, on the input tax paid by them,” he said. The proposed amendment after being passed by the state assembly will allow the traders to carry forward their credit for the financial year 2015-16.
The Cabinet also approved convening of two days Delhi Assembly sessions on March 24 and March 25 respectively for passage of the Vote on Account for first three months of the next financial year.
“We will present annual budget in the first week of June in the next Assembly session,” he said.
Sisodia also informed appointment of 21 MLAs as parliamentary secretaries which would assist ministers in their functioning. “We have just six ministers but departments are many so we need assistants.”
