“The process involved in ambulance repairing and such has to be first approved by the government, involving tenders which often result in delays. So, we have decided to outsource the operation
and maintenance of CATS ambulance services,” said Vasantha Kumar N, project director of CATS.
Along with this, additional staff required for ambulances will also be outsourced.
Currently, there are 130 regular employees hired by the government for the ambulance services and rest of the employees are on hired on contractual basis.
“We asked the Delhi Finance department to add 750 regular post including that of drivers, paramedic staff and helpers but they said it was not possible. While retaining the old staff and all their benefits, we will have to outsource additional staff required for ambulance services,” said Vasantha Kumar.
Health department is further planning to have a hi-tech modern control room at Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality hospital by June this year. “The modern control room will have video wall supervision
for all CATS ambulances along with real time call in queue status, caller location identification system to locate the caller based on GPS/GIS data of mobile handset, pre-hospital notification system to alert concerned hospitals and other such issues. It is being done in order to enhance hospital to home care service,” Kumar added.
