Delhi govt to launch Labour Development Mission on May 1

The Delhi government will launch ‘Labour Development Mission’ on May 1 for the welfare of contractual labourers working in the national Capital.
“The move aims at ensuring the payment of notified minimum rates of wages to all categories of workers, employed both in organised as well as unorgainsed sectors,” said Labour Minister Gopal Rai.
Rai has directed all employers, including contractors, to upload their employee details on their respective websites. “Employers have also been directed to pay wages by cheque. Defaulters shall be prosecuted under the provisions of law,” he said.
He added that the Delhi government was in the process of reviewing the issue of contractual employees to finalise a policy framework.
The state labour department on Friday convened a ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme at Shah Auditorium.
Labour commissioner and other senior officers attended the event. Besides, over 600 workers, members of trade unions from different departments such as the Delhi Metro, health, Delhi Jal Baord, BSES, education, election and transport were also present.
