Delhi govt to do away with VIP treatment at its hospitals

In a bid to do away with the VIP treatment facility at its all hospitals, the Delhi government has decided to finish private wards.

Health Minister Satyendar Jain said the government would convert all private wards into general, where from Chief Minister, ministers to other VIPs will get similar treatment.

According to a senior official, there is a private ward at every government hospital, where a person, who can afford medical expenses, can get a ‘VIP’ treatment.

“We want to finish VIP culture at all Delhi government hospitals. Keeping this in mind, the government has decided to close private ward, where 10-20 rooms are now kept for giving treatment to those who can afford expenses,” Jain said.

He said the move is being taken as part of adding 10,000 new beds to government hospitals. “At present, there are around 10,000 beds at government hospitals. We have decided to take the number  of beds to 20,000 at our hospitals by the next year,” he said.

He added the government would construct new blocks at the “unused land” of hospitals to increase the number of beds.

“New blocks will be constructed at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Ambedkar Hospital, Rao Tula Ram Memorial Hospital, Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital and Sanjay Gandhi Hospital. With the construction of these blocks, the numbers of new beds will be increased at government hospitals,” he added.
