Delhi gets one-stop cure shop for ailments of body and spirit

The national capital now have a one-stop address to pick up medicines for both body and spirits. The Delhi Consumers Co-operative stores, better known as Wine and Beer shops, will now also sell medicines. The Delhi PWD and development minister Rajkumar Chauhan on Tuesday inaugurated the 'Jan Aushadhi' drug store at Moti Nagar under Delhi Consumers Co-operative Wholesale Store (DCCWS).
This is the first time that a government-run store would sell medicines and liquor to the consumers from behind the same counter. Explaining the move, Chauhan said that the DCCWS has entered the pharmaceutical sector with the Bureau of Pharma, public sector undertaking of the government of India.
The Jan Aushadhi project aims to ensure access to quality medicines being manufactured by the public sector pharmaceutical undertakings, create awareness that the quality of drug is not synonymous with higher price and that more people can lead a healthier life at much less cost.
‘The project aims to make available non-branded generic medicines to all on affordable prices.
These medicines will be equivalent in quality and efficacy to expensive branded drugs. The store will also sell herbal cosmetics and medical equipments at prices much lower than that of prevailing market rates," said a senior officer.
