Delhi gets new principal secy for power

Delhi's high profile 1984 batch IAS officer Rajni Kant Verma on Monday joined as principal secretary (Power) in the Delhi government. Verma is currently holding the portfolio of PWD, environment, forest and power departments in Goa. A few months ago the ministry of home affairs had issued an order transferring him from Goa to Delhi. Verma, who was the transport commissioner in 2011, had led the turnaround in the transport sector ahead of the 2010 Commonwealth Games. R K Verma is considered one of those officials who are very adept in the public delivery system that the government needs to reach out to people in the assembly polls in November. The tussle over transfers came out in the open in February 2011, with Dikshit describing the transfer of senior officers in her administration by the Centre as ‘unprecedented and a bolt from the blue’.
