The case of Parth Wadia, liquor baron Kishan Lal Wadia’s grandson who was involved in a pub brawl in south Delhi, took a U-turn on Monday. Delhi HC granted him anticipatory bail despite a reward of Rs 20,000 announced by Delhi Police on Saturday for any information on him. Wadia had absconded after being denied an anticipatory bail by a trial court on 31 July.
Posters were put up by the police across the city – at metro stations, markets and other prominent places – with a photograph of the accused, important details and the amount of reward mentioned on them. ‘Keeping in mind the fact that the matter has been settled by the parties, the petitioner is entitled to the anticipatory bail,’ the court said on Monday. However, the High Court told Wadia not to leave the country without its permission. The court also took account of the fact that, out of 17 people arrested in the case, 16 were already out on bail. One of the 17 persons did not apply for bail so far. Despite several attempts, no police official was available for comments.
The accused Parth Wadia is the grandson of liquor baron Babu Kishan Lal Wadia. On 27 June, Parth Wadia, accompanied by armed bodyguards, turned violent when bouncers denied them entry in a night club at Vasant Kunj in south Delhi, police said. One of the bodyguards of Parth Wadia had brandished a revolver and threatened to kill the bouncers and staff of the club, said a source.
