Delhi cop's body found in water tank

In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old Delhi police constable, Manish Hooda, was found dead in a water tank on the terrace of the seventh battalion camp building, inside the premises of Police Training School in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, on Thursday. According to family members, who had a glimpse of the body before it was sent for post mortem, the neck of the policeman bore marks, pointing towards strangulation.

When contacted, the police informed that it was too early to speculate and that the case is being investigated from all angles. 'A clear picture would emerge after the postmortem report,' said P S Kushwaha, Additional DCP (South).

Manish Hooda joined the Delhi Police as constable in 2010 and was posted in the seventh battalion of the force at the time of his death. He was living on the first floor of the barrack located inside the PTS.

'We received the call at around 9.30 am from the barrack. When we reached, we found Manish's body lying inside the water tank of 1,000-litre capacity,' said a police officer. The body was sent to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) mortuary for postmortem examination, he added.

According to Hooda's family members, he was not happy with his work and his barrack's conditions. Apparently, he had complained to his father about the terrible plight of the barrack. He was also under duress as his leave applications were being rejected. His father, Krishan Kumar, who himself is a head constable and is posted at Mayur Vihar police station, said he had called Hooda on his mobile phone at 9 pm on Wednesday and had spoken with him.

'Manish was suffering from fever and told me that he has taken the medicine and would apply for leave. Morning, at 11 am, I got know about the incident,' he added.
