The Delhi government on Monday decided to grant the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) the status of a university. The Delhi Cabinet gave its in principle approval to upgrade NSIT, Dwarka into a university. The institute will be called NSIT University, Delhi.
The Cabinet meeting was presided over by the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Talking about the move, Dikshit said NSIT, which was established in 1983 has emerged as a premier technological institute for education and research in the area of engineering and technology and has carved a niche for itself nationally and internationally.
‘The cabinet has given in principle approval for upgradation of the institute into a state university. This will improve the standard of education of students there,’ the chief minister said. A draft Bill and operational details would be finalised in the same context.
