Delhi BJP to kick-start election campaign on Modi’s birthday

The city BJP chief Vijay Goel on Saturday took a lead among five poll-bound states by announcing to launch the party’s election campaign for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections on Narendra Modi’s birthday — 17 September. Goel, who is considered a close aide of veteran LK Advani praised Modi and promised the citizens of Delhi a government on the model of Gujarat.

‘We are launching our election campaign on the birthday of our favourite leader Narendra Modi. We promise the citizens of Delhi good governance as Modi showcased in Gujarat,’ said Goel in a press conference on Saturday.

Goel, however, refused to comment on any question related to LK Advani. The launch of the election campaign will witness the presence of several national party leaders and city BJP leaders at Talkatora stadium.

‘The campaign will be based on the theme — door to door BJP — in which party workers will go to every house and distribute handbills and pamphlets containing information about ‘misrule’ of Sheila Dikshit’s government and also the “vision document” of BJP for Delhi,’ said Goel.

The party has decided to put seven video chariots on road, songs and radio jingles to woo the voters. Revealing his strategy, Goel said that the party workers would organise morning road shows (Prabhat Pheri) in every village to get a lead on 20 village dominated assembly segments. As per sources, the campaign is being launched to keep the ‘evil forces’ away from Narendra Modi’s rally scheduled on 29 September at Swarnajayanti Park (Japanese Park) at Rohini as the date is not ‘auspicious’ to start any new work.
