Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel is likely to announce his team on Monday. The team, which will have over 20 office bearers, is being constituted to accommodate caste, regional and gender aspirations.
According to sources, only one of the four general secretaries would be given a chance in the new team.
‘The party has almost finalised the name of Shikha Rai and Ramesh Bidhuri for the post of general secretaries but the name of the third general secretary is yet to be decided,’ said a senior BJP leader.
The state BJP in Delhi has four general secretaries out of which one, general secretary (Organisation) is nominated by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and three are selected by BJP from the party cadre.
Shikha Rai is presently president of the Women’s Front in Delhi BJP and has worked on various posts of the party. She is considered to be close to the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj.
Ramesh Bidhuri, an MLA from Tughlakabad, is considered as the Gujjar face of the party, so is mostly likely to be retained as general secretary in the party. But there are three names being considered for the third general secretary in the party- Pravesh Verma, Kulwant Rana, and Jaya Prakash.
According to sources, Goel is contemplating promoting Ashish Sood from the post of general secretary to vice-president.
However, the other lobby is also working hard to wrest the position, with Pravesh Verma, the son of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh Verma, being projected as the face of Jaat community in BJP.
Earlier, Jaat leader Rajesh Gehlot was also considered for the post of general secretary, but he was convinced to compromise, after being offered the post of chairman of standing committee in South Delhi Municipal Corporation and a ticket in Delhi Assembly elections.
Besides the general secretaries’ appointments, Goel will also have to finalise the names of eight vice-presidents, eight secretaries and one treasurer.
The possible candidates for the posts of VPs are Mohan Singh Bisht (MLA), Yogender Chandolia (former chairman of standing committee in North DMC), Pawan Sharma, former mayor Meera Aggarwal and Jaya Prakash, while Poonam Azad, Vijay Jolly and R P Singh, will certainly be repeated.
The present VPs, former mayor Rajni Abbi and Prithvi Raj Sahni are likely to miss a position in the team.
