Confident with the overwhelming performance in Haryana and Maharashtra assembly elections, more and more MLAs of Delhi BJP are joining the chorus of early elections in the city. According to sources, the party unit has been indicated to prepare for the elections with target to go for polls between first week of January and mid February. The party is most likely to announce its decision on polls after Diwali.
‘We can have an election in Delhi after 5 January, 2015. I am hopeful that we will be able to form government in Delhi on our own as people have faith in our leader Narendra Modi. BJP government at the Centre has done an excellent job by controlling prices and meeting the expectations of the people,’ said Nand Kishore Garg, senior BJP leader and MLA from Trinagar.
He further added that he was always of the view that elections are the only solution in the present scenario. ‘The thumping win of BJP the districts bordering Haryana will have a direct impact on forty percent of the seats in Delhi,’ he added. As the Delhi Electoral Office has begun updating the voters’ list in Delhi from 15 October which shall be completed by 5 January, 2015, the leaders are observing it as a preparation of the commission to hold elections in the city.
The senior most BJP MLA and front runner of the chief ministerial candidate Jagdish Mukhi on Sunday had said that if party goes for polls he is ready but a government could be formed within 72 hours. But even first time MLAs are now not using if and voicing their view on early elections.
‘Delhi assembly elections will happen between mid January to mid February. I am prepared for elections and also organising workers with that target in mind,’ said Rajesh Gehlot, MLA from Matiala.
Gehlot is the first time MLA and resigned from the post of councillor after he was elected MLA. He was also two time chairman of standing committee in South DMC so has brought sufficient funds to his area.
‘I have fulfilled my promises by closely monitoring the projects which I had cleared for my area during my tenure as chairman of the standing committee,’ added Gehlot confidently. The first time MLAs like Mahender Nagapal from Wazirpur and RK Puram MLA Anil Sharma also favoured fresh elections.
