With Delhi BJP president on the way out, a serious problem has arisen regarding meeting expenses of the party office. According to well placed sources, there is a severe financial crunch and it’s even difficult to meet the salary of its motley ministerial staff. Sources said that crisis started soon after it was decided to have Dr Harshvardhan as the party’s chief ministerial candidate.
‘With local unit chief Vijay Goel being overlooked for the assignment, he lost interest in the job and financial mismanagement started to seep in. For the past few months the salary of the staff and other related expenditure is being reimbursed by the central office,’ said a senior party functionary. The mismanagement is also showing in the party’s performance inside and outside the assembly.
‘Despite crisis of governance gripping the city, the response of the party’s Delhi unit has been tepid. Though Congress is supporting the Arvind Kejriwal government, they have been more aggressive in criticism and aggression vis-à-vis the Aam Admi Party and their cadres have shown courage to counter attack on their leaders, whereas the same has not been true of the BJP,’ added the leader.
Ever since the party’s loss in the assembly polls, where it failed to get majority, there has been talk of replacing Vijay Goel as city unit boss. He has already been adequately compensated by accommodating him in the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. However, his replacement at Pant Marg (Delhi BJP office) has been inordinately delayed.
‘The party adopted the same dilly dallying attitude while nominating chief ministerial candidate hitting severely affecting party’s fortune. With Lok Sabha polls on the head, if the party continues with its lackadaisical attitude, it would be no wonder that AAP would go to the polls unchecked,’ lamented the leader.
