“The government will present its important projects on the first two days which will be followed by Economic Survey of Delhi on June 25. The Budget will be presented on June 26, Friday, the fourth day of the session,” said a spokesperson of Delhi government.
According to sources, the lion’s share of around Rs 36,000 crore– Rs 40,000 crore of the Budget will go towards the salary of employees. The spokesperson of Delhi government also informed that the budget was finalised and sent to Lt. Governor for approval of the Central government. “The assembly will discuss the budget for two days and pass it on June 30,” he added.
The important feature of <g data-gr-id="39">the it</g> will be the ‘public budget’–drafted in consultation with the Mohalla Sabhas organised in 12 selected assembly constituents of the city. According to sources, the government, with am <g data-gr-id="38">eye</g> on revamping the education system in the city, will hike the budgetary allocation for education from present 3 to 5 <g data-gr-id="34">per cent</g> to 6 to 10 <g data-gr-id="35">per cent</g>. The government will also introduce a bill to empower the education department to control the menace of ‘donation for admission’ in private schools. The government has the pre-requisite number to pass its bills and projects in the Assembly. Despite the opposition is insignificant in 70-member Assembly, the little opposition is also planning to raise its voice on public issues like electricity surcharge, water crisis and Jan Lokpal.
“AAP came to power banking on the issue of Jan <g data-gr-id="30">Lokpal</g> but now the issue seems to have taken the back seat. The post of Lokayukta is vacant since over two years and cases are piled up in the office of Lokayukta,” said Vijender Gupta, Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly.
As the government enjoys support of 67 out of 70 MLAs, it cannot be cornered in the House but the charges of fake degree on former Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar and of domestic violence against its MLA Somnath Bharti, are the fresh ammos in the hands of Opposition. The ruling party MLAs are also planning to raise the issue of ‘dictatorship’ by <g data-gr-id="32">Central</g> government through Lt Governor and putting Delhi in ‘Emergency’ like situations.
