Defence Colony robbery took three months of planning

Three months of hard work by five friends culminated in the 5.25-crore robbery in posh Defence Colony of south Delhi on Friday. A day before the robbery, even a mock trial was done. As per the plan, on 5 July, they stole a Hyundai Verna, belonging to a Faridabad-based businessman. On 8 July, the victim lodged a complaint regarding this.

From that day till 28 September, the robbers, including Vijay who has been arrested, kept the stolen car parked in a garage in Gurgaon. On 20 July, the group got the good news that a new cash transiting company, Premier Shield Pvt Ltd, had opened up in Lajpat Nagar.

They then collected information about the staff of the company and approached one of them to be their informer. He told them that 12 security guards had been appointed by the company, but they were not verified by police. The informer, who has not been identified as yet, told them about the route of the cash van. The robbers started the recce from 15 september. As it would have been difficult to rob the van on a main road, they opted for a service lane. A day before committing the robbery, they did a a trial for perfect results. As the car was stolen, they a feared being caught, so they also did a recce of the police check-post.
