In a shocking incident, the decomposed body of a 50-year-old man was found inside the bathroom of a vacant bungalow at Ravi Shankar Shukla Marg in New Delhi’s Lutyens Zone on Saturday morning. The body was at least 20 days old and was found standing straight with its back against one of the bathroom walls. However, the cause of death couldn’t be ascertained, said police.
The bungalow was allotted to an MP from Jammu and Kashmir but he vacated it four months ago.
With the help of documents recovered from the pocket of the deceased person, he was identified as one Bhuia Shoumitra from West Bengal. His body was discovered by the security guard of the bungalow when he opened the door around 10 am to find out the source of a stench emanating reportedly from one of the rooms. He reported the matter to the police, said Vijay Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi).
The police also said that presently there is no one occupying the servant quarters of the bungalow. The security guard is the only employee present and he told the police that he did not recognise any Bhuia Shoumitra, nor did he have any idea about how the body came to be there. However, he is still being questioned, said Singh.
According to a police source, there was a mark visible on the neck of the body, suggesting that the person was strangled with a rope or piece of cloth. But the body was too decomposed to ascertain anything during the preliminary investigation. The police are awaiting the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death.
Also, there were no visible blood stains on the bathroom floor. It is also possible that the person was killed somewhere else and later dumped in the bungalow. The police have also not ruled out probability of suicide. Apart from an identity card, a train ticket from Haryana’s Ambala to Delhi has also been recovered from the pocket of the deceased person.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of law and investigation is underway, Singh added.
