A woman from Orissa, who was a manager with real estate giant Supertech in Noida, committed suicide by hanging herself on Wednesday. Reportedly, she was depresses as she was under heavy debt, and also unable to conceive a child for a long time. She was living with her husband, a software engineer with Gaur City.
Tapaswini Dalai, 29, was found hanging from the ceiling of her home by the neighbours on Wednesday afternoon. In the suicide note written in Oriya, Dalai said she was taking the step because she was tired of being constantly in debt, and her inability to conceive a child. Her husband was identified as Benudhar Behera.
Police officials said Benudhar left for work at 9 am on Wednesday morning. ‘Tapaswini did not go to office. When her husband called her, she didn’t pick up the phone. He then asked a neighbour to check on her, and when they peeked into the house, they saw her hanging from the ceiling fan. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival,’ officials said.
The note further said, ‘No one is responsible for my death. How long can one live a life constantly bound by problem of debt. We have to take another loan for her [a relative] wedding. I don’t want to live like this anymore. We don’t have children and we can never have the happiness of having them either.’ Officials said the couple had been married for 6 years .
‘They were both at senior positions in their companies and earned good packages. They seemed to be financially sound but because of family obligations, they had to send a lot of money home. We are waiting for post-mortem report,’ officials said.

In the suicide note written on the wall of her bedroom in red ink, she has apologised to her parents. ‘Papa, Mammi, I know I am going to hurt you but I had decided to end my life if I failed in the examination,’ read the note written by Prerna, 14. She was a Class VIII student of St Paul’s School in Rajnagar. ‘We used to support her morally and never pressurised her,’ said Shyam Sunder, her father.
