Death for 3 in rape and murder of Delhi teen

A Delhi court on Wednesday awarded death sentence to three youth Ravi, Rahul and Vinod convicted for raping and brutally killing a 19-year-old girl while noticing that life imprisonment would be highly inadequate punishment as they are a menace to society.

Additional session judge Virendra Bhatt observed that the case falls under rarest of rare category and pronounced that all convicts should be hanged till death. ‘The perpetrators of crimes like rape and murder forfeit their right to live. Life imprisonment is highly inadequate in these cases and there is no alternative but to impose death sentence. These criminals are a menace to the society and they don’t deserve to be kept alive...the convicts shall be hanged till death,’ said ASJ Bhat. 

According to the prosecution the three men, all in their 20s, on 9 February 2012 dragged the girl into their car near her house in Qutub Vihar in Dwarka  area and sped away. Prosecutor Satwinder Kaur told the court that for the next three days, they raped her in a mustard fields they 

drove her to. 

‘Through these three days, they constantly beat her up, burnt her with cigarette butts, mutilated her eyes and face with screwdrivers, inserted a broken liquor bottle in her private parts, poured acid over her eyes and her face and finally left her to die,’ said Kaur.
