DDA to utilise vacant plots as play fields

Aiming to utilise its vacant plots, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has introduced a project of developing play fields for residential neighbourhoods of the area on the vacant lands. A total of 15 plots have so far been identified and are being levelled and cleared.

Sports equipment like football goal posts, volleyball poles etc are being erected and arrangements for football, cricket and volleyball is being provided periodically to the children free of cost by DDA.
The DDA officials said that almost all identified plots have been taken up for development and four fields have already been operationalised at Neb Sarai, Maidan Garhi, Paschim Vihar and Dwarka. Another five fields behind Ghazipur village, Mayur Vihar District Centre (two plots), Shastri Park and the land adjoining Buland Masjid have been operationalised taking the total number of operational fields to nine out of 15. More sites are likely to be identified so that vacant sites are utilised fruitfully.

“The basic objective of the scheme is that the children of these residential neighbourhoods would be benefited and would get opportunity to play sports free of cost as play equipment would also be provided to them by DDA.

Secondly, most of these vacant plots have wild vegetation and are used for dumping of malba,
defecation etc and are prone to encroachment.

Levelled, cleared and developed play fields will bring about cleanliness in the area, thereby improving the quality of lives of people of the areas. It is also safer for the residents of the neighbourhoods to use these plots for recreation etc, as there would be lesser chances of anti-social activities,” said the official.
