DDA to build old-age home on 1981 Rohini Housing Scheme land, applicants cry foul

The DDA is planning to build an Old-age home on the five hectare land in Rohini which was meant for allotment during its 1981 housing scheme.

Over three decades have passed since the DDA announced its housing scheme in 1981, but the applicants are yet to get the possession. A notice by DDA in an English daily informed the public about its plan to build an Old-age home on five hectare Rohini Scheme Land in Sector 40-41 of Rohini.

A complainant Rahul Gupta wrote a letter to Ministry of Urban Development in this regard. ‘It is a totally illegal plan to divert five hectare Rohini land for building for Old Age Homes. The registrants of the 1981 housing scheme are still to be handed over plot, they applied 33 years back’ he wrote in his letter.

He further added that the matter is still pending in the court. ‘The matter is pending at Supreme Court. DDA has failed to abide various directions/orders of Delhi High Court many times in past. As per latest direction of Court, DDA is required to handover developed plot to about 24,539 scheme registrants by end of this year. But it has failed to do so,’ the letter added.

The letter also questioned the legality of  DDA’s plan to build Old-age home on that land. ‘If any un-disputed land is not available for Rohini Scheme, how is DDA making plans of building Old-age home on on the same land’, asked Rahul in his letter to Union Development ministry.
