DDA holds talks with operators over cycle sharing scheme

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Friday organised a round table consultation on Dwarka Public Bicycle Sharing Scheme. The consultations was focused on the operational and business models of public bicycle sharing scheme that will help make the system deliver quality services and also make it sustainable in the long run. Operators, participating in the discussion, discussed the technology details and issues being faced during operations of such system.

The issue of combining revenue collection with operations contract was also deliberated upon in detail. This, in the opinion of operators, takes away from the technical job of operating the system and ensuring service delivery as the entire onus of meeting expenses from advertising lies on the operator.

Balvinder Kumar, Vice-Chairman, DDA, dwelt at length on the issue and said: “It is good to hear perspectives from different operators as mistakes that have already been made in other parts of the country as well as Delhi should serve as improvement points. According to him the operators have come with rich experience and thus the DDA would like to benefit from their experience.”

He also asked the participants to send their views on the discussion so that various financial and operational models suggested can be evaluated and a concept paper can be evolved which can be further discussed to arrive at a decision.
