In the aftermath of the death of a girl child in Shakur Basti, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has deferred the evacuation of its land in the flood zone of Yamuna.
“In view of the unfortunate incident during the demolition drive carried out by another agency at another location and keeping in view the winter season, DDA has decided to defer the demolition programs after the winter season. In this regard, DDA will seek clarification from NGT,” said a DDA spokesperson on Sunday.
Around 106 acres of land was cleared on the demolition programs carried out on November 26-27 and December 1 and 9, 2015 by DDA in the flood zone of Yamuna. DDA, however, emphasised that the drive was in compliance with the orders of NGT as no agricultural activity or any other construction is permitted in the Yamuna Flood Zone.
