DDA cancels all bookings of its sites for marriages, religious functions

Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on Friday announced to cancel all bookings of the DDA sites for marriage and religious functions. The action was initiated following a sting operation which exposed <g data-gr-id="17">nexus</g> between the DDA engineers and the decorators regarding fake and illegitimate bookings of DDA sites.

“All bookings done so far have been ordered to be canceled forthwith and to be restored only on <g data-gr-id="24">re-validation</g> and review by the concerned chief engineer. It will be the responsibility of the concerned chief engineer to ensure that in no case decorators or any other <g data-gr-id="25">in-genuine</g> person books any site meant for marriage, religious and commercial purposes,” the DDA order said.  

Balvinder Kumar, Vice-Chairman of the DDA said: “Following the revelation, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) has been directed to conduct an in-depth inquiry and ensure speedy proceedings against all guilty officials.” He further added that officials of the Engineering Department including those posted in the office of Chief Engineer, where booking are monitored, in the System Department who are directly or indirectly concerned with the process of booking of sites and shown in the sting operation have been identified and the concerned executive engineer, assistant engineer and junior engineer have been suspended so far.

The V-C has also ordered that the engineering member will review the online system right from the submission of application, verification system and re-modify the policy so as to ensure that no decorators are able to misuse the procedure. The decorators shown in the sting operation have been blacklisted. “All the three decorators shown in the sting operation have been blacklisted with immediate effect and the concerned chief engineers have been asked to ensure that the blacklisted decorators do not work on DDA sites,” the V-C added.

 The weatherman has predicted light rain and thunderstorm on Monday which is likely to provide some relief from the scorching heat in the city. “The thunderstorm and light rain is likely on Monday. It may continue with less strength on Tuesday as well,” said a senior MeT official in Delhi. According to the MeT office, the maximum temperature, which is above 40 <g data-gr-id="54">degree</g> Celsius for the past few days, will come down to 38-39 degree Celsius. The maximum temperature on Friday was recorded at 42.1 degree Celsius which was one point above normal while the minimum temperature was 27 <g data-gr-id="51"><g data-gr-id="53">degree</g></g> Celsius. The maximum and minimum humidity on Friday was recorded at 55 percent and 21 percent respectively. The official added that the maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday are likely to be between 41 and 27 degree Celsius respectively.
